What is Zaha?

An Icon? A symbol? Is she a Brand herself already?

Is she an artist or an architect?

Zaha Hadid is definitely an icon - a woman, as a matter of fact “The first great female Architect” as the title of the article by Jonathan Meades states. Although after reading the article we can sense a bit of sarcasm here and there…

Why was he trying to twist everything around, and show all the bad side of her? Is he a sour man, being jealous at a woman’s success? Why is he pointing out how much she is using her architectural jargon, when he is doing just the same writing in his high educated – journalist – way, which most people find hard to understand as well…

However he does have a point to think about…

Is Zaha a maverick or is she just want to be heard or want to be famous?

We cant tell exactly, can we? All I know is what I have experienced. I have a friend who was working for her, and she took me into the office. The same office as described in the essay as well. My friend was one of the people working in one of those big spaces, one of the individual in the crowd of computers with his little ipod in his ears. Not talking to anyone, just drawing in rhino nonstop, until late nights, with no pay almost and no time to enjoy life.

And he did like it, he liked the small pub next to the office on the corner where they went for a pint every now and then.

When I was looking around I heard yelling from somewhere, looking at my friend he said, “Yes, that’s Zaha yelling at someone. That’s what she does usually”…

As pathetic as it is, I left smiling after that to be honest, as - I have heard Zaha yelling – not many have…
